The George McClellan Foundation will use proceeds from the upcoming events to fund the Summer Cooling Program. The program will provide air conditioning units for qualified senior citizens and other at-risk households. The program is available for low-income Greater Houston area residents New whose health issues pose a medical emergency during the extended period of hot weather forecast in the coming days.
“Houston’s heat is enduring is not something to be taken lightly. Qualified seniors and homeowners should apply in order to protect their families, especially seniors and children, from this deadly heat,” said Marjorie Allen, foundation president. “This program is critical to senior citizens and other high-risk families who do not have the proper units to ensure safety from the heat. If you have someone in your family who may be at risk of a medical emergency, I encourage you to find out if they qualify for this program.”
Eligibility for the program is determined by:
1) Low-income guidelines. (For a four-person household, the maximum gross annual income to qualify is approximately $30,000.)
2) Having at least one household member who has been diagnosed with a chronic or acute medical condition that is aggravated by exposure to extreme heat situations.
3) A doctor providing written documentation (dated within the last six months) that air-conditioning assistance is critical to prevent a heat emergency.
4) Households that have a working air conditioner are not eligible.
To find out if you qualify/recommend someone for a free unit, or to donate a unit and/or funds to this program, please contact Marjorie Allen at 832.338.7495.
Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?" The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me." Matthew 25: 37-40
